Challenge

While the founder had deep subject-matter expertise and a strong reputation in the sector, translating that expertise into a clear digital experience presented a challenge.

School leaders needed to quickly understand a fairly complex service, assess whether it was relevant to their context, and determine how Ambrose could help. At the same time, the website needed to build trust without relying on overly promotional messaging, as educational decision-makers are often cautious of sales-driven communication.

An additional consideration was implementation. The stakeholder needed a solution that could be maintained independently after launch, making Squarespace the most practical platform. As both designer and builder on the project, I needed to balance user experience goals with the realities of the platform from the outset.

Discovery & Research

Coming from outside the education sector, I began by immersing myself in the domain through research and a series of interviews with the founder. These discussions revealed an important insight: school leaders are often approached by vendors and consultants, making them naturally cautious of overly promotional messaging.

This reframed the challenge. The goal wasn’t to create a conversion-focused landing page, but to help users understand a complex service, assess its relevance, and build trust in the expertise behind it. With over 25 years of experience in the sector, the founder’s credibility was one of the business’s greatest assets. Rather than relying on aggressive marketing tactics and repeated calls to action, we chose to create an experience that reflected his thoughtful and consultative approach, allowing trust to be built through clarity, expertise, and transparent communication.

Defining the Direction

The majority of the work happened before any visual design. I explored multiple information architecture approaches, mapped different user journeys, and presented three alternative content structures to the stakeholder. Alongside low-fidelity wireframes and mood boards, these explorations helped us evaluate different ways of communicating the service and building trust.

Through collaborative review sessions, we selected a direction that balanced user needs, business objectives, and the founder’s deep understanding of the audience.

Design & Delivery

With the structure established, I translated the chosen direction into responsive designs in Figma, exploring visual approaches that felt professional, trustworthy, and approachable.

I then implemented the website in Squarespace, adapting the design to the platform’s capabilities while maintaining the integrity of the experience. Designing with implementation in mind from the beginning allowed me to work efficiently within technical constraints and deliver a final product that was both user-friendly and easy for the stakeholder to manage independently.

Outcome

The final website transformed a complex advisory offering into a clear and accessible experience, helping school leaders quickly understand the service, build trust, and determine whether Ambrose Education could support their needs.
